Building Standards & Sealux

In line with the recommendations of recognised Building Standard Authorities worldwide, Sealux products incorporate the principals of sealant back-up strips and sealant bond-breakers.

• The purpose of a sealant back-up strip is to provide a releasable shuttering that allows us to shape the sealant to the desired dimensions that maximises stress free flexibility.

• The purpose of a sealant bond-breaker tape is to prevent 3 side adhesion of the sealant that might otherwise resulting in de-bonding or tearing under the tensile effects of joint expansion.

While Building Standard Authorities have addressed the technical requirements for the proper installation of a flexible movement joint seal, a by-product of the installation method is ‘exposed sealant’ in the hostile shower environment and that can be problematic:

• longevity - sealant exposed in the shower environment deteriorates rapidly
• aesthetics - exposed sealant attracts dirt and can end up an eyesore
• hygiene - exposed sealant in the shower environment is unhygienic

By thinking ‘outside the joint’, Sealux have shaped proven back-up and bond-breaker principals into revolutionary product designs and installation methods that take exposed sealant out of shower environment and increases the performance of the seals dramatically.

All Sealux products employ the above principals and meet the recommendations of recognised Building Standard Authorities throughout the world.
